Alegra and I are "Southern"-that's in quotes because it's not completely true for either of us, but let's just go with it- and for a true southern "belle" (again, not completely true), there is no better liquor than whiskey/bourbon. Honestly, don't even think about debating it with us, we just wont budge. To some, dark liquor is analogous with dark, smoky bars rather than elegant, romantic weddings. For those who fall into this category, behold the Old-Fashioned. If you've never had one because you don't like whiskey/bourbon, you now have a challenge of the week-head to your closest bar, preferably one that is known for its knowledgeable bartenders/mixologists- you will fall in love. Trust us.
The Old-Fashioned is exactly what the name suggests- classic. Think old Hollywood, Mad Men, think long-strand pearl necklaces and men wearing perfectly-tailored suits, think Coco Channel.
